Pennsylvania officials recently announced that an investigation into a
wreck that occurred in September of last year has resulted in a variety
of criminal charges. A driver of one of the two cars involved has been
charged with being under the influence of a
controlled substance at the time of the collision, among other accusations. Two children were
critically injured in the accident.
The 27-year-old mother allegedly failed to maintain her lane of travel,
causing her vehicle to drift into the opposing lane. Another driver tried
to avoid a collision, but she was unable to do so. The two automobiles
crashed along the roadside. The collision caused the second car, which
was driven by a 54-year-old woman, to roll onto its top.
The mother was apparently transporting three children at the time of the
wreck. The two drivers and one child were not seriously hurt in the wreck.
However, even though the other two children were in the required safety
restraints, they were critically wounded in the accident. A website provided
information which stated that the youngsters, a 6-year-old and an infant
are the children of the charged driver. Reportedly, they were treated
with life-sustaining equipment for several days before being transported
to another facility.
Pennsylvania police have not stated why their investigation into this accident
took so long to complete. At this time, the woman has been charged with
operating a vehicle while being influenced by a controlled substance as
well as additional serious charges of recklessness and endangering the
welfare of the children in her vehicle. Authorities stated that the woman
displayed symptoms that suggested she was not in full control of her faculties
at the time of the wreck, and blood tests purportedly revealed the presence
of an undisclosed substance. This woman is still presumed to be innocent
unless and until her guilt is established by relevant proof in a court
of law. Moreover, she can request access to any evidence that may be offered
against her in order to prepare appropriate legal challenges to admissibility
and to organize a forceful and compelling defense.
