Two individuals were recently arrested after one was accused of stealing
from a Wal-Mart store in Pennsylvania and the other was accused of driving
while intoxicated. According to police, the alleged theft and DUI incident
took place on a recent Monday morning. It began when a man and a woman
reportedly had a fight in the store's parking lot.
Police said that the woman attempted to drive from the scene and was chased
by the man. The man tripped and ended up falling down. Police reported
that his head then struck the ground, and he fell unconscious.
Police arrived at the department store, where the man was treated after
his injury. During this time, police said they discovered that the man
possessed items he had recently pilfered from Wal-Mart. In addition, authorities
administered sobriety tests to the woman, who reportedly showed signs
that she was impaired. The man was charged with theft in a retail setting,
while the woman was charged with DUI. Whether or not the woman will also
face theft charges was not known at the time of this report.
Theft and DUI charges may result in jail time or other consequences, depending
on the particular case. When a person faces such criminal charges, he
or she may decide to enter a plea agreement with prosecutors if this option
is made available, or one can go to court and assertively fight the prosecution's
allegations. It is necessary for prosecutors in a Pennsylvania criminal
court to prove these charges beyond a reasonable doubt in order for the
defendant to be convicted.
