Facing charges of drinking and driving can be alarming for an individual
because of the long-term consequences of a resulting conviction. One individual
in Pennsylvania is currently facing this ordeal after allegedly engaging
in DUI. The incident took place on a recent Sunday.
Police reported that the man, said to be 42, was driving his vehicle at
about 3 p.m. All of a sudden, he collided with a couple of road signs
as well as a guard rail. His pickup truck was reportedly stuck in this
area for a brief amount of time before the man started it up once again.
Police said the man then continued driving for nearly one mile. They said
he then parked his vehicle in a nearby yard. Authorities reported that
his blood alcohol content was .21. He now faces charges of driving under
the influence as well as other charges related to the incident.
If a person accused of DUI ends up being found guilty, he or she will be
convicted and punished accordingly. Penalties may include time in jail,
a fine or the suspension of one's driver's license. A defendant
can go to trial to fight the allegations made against him, or he or she
may take advantage of an opportunity to negotiate a plea agreement with
the prosecution and avoid going to trial. However, even if a person has
already gone to trial, he or she may later choose to plea bargain as long
as no conviction has yet been handed down. Any person charged with a criminal
offense is guaranteed legal protections in Pennsylvania.
