Two individuals in Pennsylvania were recently caught in connection with several cemetery thefts. According to police, the men said they stole from several cemeteries in multiple counties. The men may face theft charges after police complete their investigation into the matter.
One business person was reportedly involved in helping to catch the two men believed to have committed the cemetery thefts. The man, who owns a garage, said he received a call that a person desired to scrap a large number of vases used in graveyards. The man told the person to bring the items to him, and then he contacted police.
Police at the time were unable to determine where the vases had come from. However, the seller of the vases later contacted the garage again, as he wanted to scrap more items from a cemetery. Police met the seller at the garage, and both he and another person in a vehicle were taken into custody. Police said they had recovered about 140 items believed to have been stolen from area graves by the two men.
If the men are charged with theft and decide to fight the charges in court rather than accepting a plea deal with prosecutors, the prosecution must explicitly prove these charges beyond a reasonable doubt. If they fail to do this, a criminal conviction cannot be handed down against them in Pennsylvania. Carefully examining the evidence that prosecutors plan to present in court may help the criminal defense to pursue the most favorable outcome attainable for the defendants under the relevant circumstances and facts of the case.
