For the last three months, investigators in New York have been looking into allegations of rape against Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. Many expected rape charges to be filed against the All-Star winger, but the Hamburg Police Department and the Erie County District Attorney announced today that he would face no charges.
Too Many Inconsistencies
Erie County prosecutors stated that “significant material inconsistencies” between the claims of the accuser and other witnesses. After examining physical and forensic evidence, they came to the conclusion that it “tends to contradict” the rape accusation. Specifically, the DNA analysis of samples taken from the alleged victim did not match Kane’s.
A bizarre controversy popped up midway through the investigation, when the mother of the accuser claimed to find the rape kit in a brown paper bag on her doorstep. Prosecutors quickly debunked this as a hoax, and the alleged victim’s attorney promptly quit, claiming that he no longer believed the mother’s story.
